Defrauded with fake policy
Cyber fraudsters trapped people through a fake website with a low compulsory traffic insurance offer. Fraudsters who created policies through the hacked system of the insurance agency company pocketed the money they received in advance and made payments using the credit card information they received from the victimized citizen.
As a result of the work of the Ankara Provincial Police Directorate of Security's Anti-Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate teams, it was determined that insurance policies were issued to citizens through a fake website and payments were made with stolen credit card information.
THE AGENCY COMPANY'S SYSTEM HACKED
According to the news of Sabah; cyber fraudsters hacked into the system of the insurance agency company serving in Ankara and then created a fake traffic insurance site that they created by placing Google ads, allowing it to rank high.
RANKED HIGH ON GOOGLE
Vehicle owners logging into the fake site entered their vehicle and contact information into the panel on the site. With the vehicle information entered, the fraudsters received the price of car insurance and motor insurance through another system and sent their offers over WhatsApp with a low rate. Afterwards, the victims, who thought that they got car insurance or motor insurance with a favorable price, sent their credit card information to the fraudsters.
BILL PAYMENTS REALIZED WITH CREDIT CARD INFORMATION
Cyber fraudsters completed the insurance transaction by entering the vehicle information into the system of the insurance agency company they hacked, and sent the fake payment document and the created policy to the people via WhatsApp and e-mail. As a result of the hacking of the agency's system, the policies made through the legal system ended up in the victims' e-Government. The network made payments at internet, natural gas and electricity bill payment points in Istanbul, Izmir and Bursa using the credit card information they received from the victims while pocketing the money they received in advance.
INSURANCE POLICIES CANCELED
Upon the insurance company noticing the policies, it contacted the center and asked for the system to be checked. As a result of the inspections, upon realizing that the site had been compromised, the company canceled the policies and sent them to the victims via message. Ankara Anti-Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate took the statements of 40 victims whose policies were compensated and 23 suspects whose invoices were paid. After completing their work, cyber police officers arrested 22 people in a simultaneous operation against 23 suspects in 8 provinces centered in Ankara.
