Claims of "million dollar" fraud with fake policies using the name of insurance agents
Recently, it has been warned that one should be careful when purchasing a policy over the internet, claiming that many people have been defrauded with fake policies issued through copied internet pages of some insurance agencies.
Ö.Ş., an insurance agent in the province of Antalya, stated that they realized that too many insurance policies were entered into their system in one day and that the transaction was not made by their employees. Ö.Ş., who detected that the transactions of some of its customers who said that they renewed their insurance policies online, were not screened in the system, filed a criminal complaint.
It was reported that 3 suspects were detained, one of the suspects who were transferred to the courthouse was arrested and 2 of them were released under judicial control within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Cybercrimes Prosecutor's Office.
It was stated by the Prosecutor's Office that the investigation continues to identify other victims and apprehend all suspects.

Antalya Insurance Agencies Association (ANSAD) President İ.D. said that agencies use "static IP" when issuing policies, but this application is temporarily suspended due to the epidemic, with stating that fraudsters inflict damage on both citizens and insurance agents with fake policies they prepared by taking advantage of this opportunity; further noted that, according to their estimations, around 150 agents and 5,000 insured people were victims of fraud, about 5 million Turkish Liras were scammed, that our citizens had to be very careful when buying a policy on the internet, that fraudsters manipulated the policy with advertisements such as “we are giving gifts, we have discounts, our price is very low” and presented it to the citizens by preparing fakes.
Afterwards, the President of ANSAD warned citizens to get their insurance from agencies they know, and to those who renew their insurance policies on the internet, to check via e-Government application.
“We think scammers are people who know the system well”
Atty. P.H. stated that client of P.H. owns an insurance agent and stated that the interface of the agent’s website was copied during working from home due to the epidemic, and that both the agent and its customers were defrauded by this method.
Informing that the investigation on the subject is continuing, P.H. stated that those who committed the fraud were probably people who worked in the insurance company and knew the system well, and that both customers and insurance agents continued to be defrauded.
Agent owner Ö.Ş. also stated that after the fraud they experienced, they immediately contacted the insurance company they were affiliated with and closed their systems, stating that both they and their customers were aggrieved, and demanded that their losses be compensated.
